Purpose

The purpose of this action guide is to become familiarized with the "What If" APAS and to explore majors with the report.

Description

The APAS (Academic Progress Audit System) shows how your coursework applies to Liberal Education and degree requirements for your declared major. The "What If" APAS report allows you to generate a sample report for any undergraduate major at the U of M so you can see what requirements you may have already met.

The APAS (Academic Progress Audit System) is a report that provides information about degree requirements, courses that fulfill those requirements, and how the courses you have taken satisfy degree requirements for particular majors. It is personalized to you, showing how your coursework applies to Liberal Education and degree requirements for your declared major. The "What If" APAS report allows you to generate a sample report for any undergraduate major at the U of M to see how your completed and/or in-progress coursework fits with the requirements of a different degree program.
When a student is about to graduate from the University, it is the APAS report that is reviewed by advisors and processors to make sure a student has fulfilled all their liberal education requirements AND all their major requirements for graduation and degree clearance.
The student is also responsible for their APAS report being complete and correct. A student should check their APAS report each semester, especially right after registering for classes, in case any classes are not fulfilling requirements as expected.

Directions

  1. Think of one or two majors you would like to consider. Write them down. 

  2. Log into your MyU and choose Academics. From there, scroll down to the Planning link. Select APAS from the options within the Planning link. 

  3. You will be on the “Request an APAS” page. Here, you will see your current degree program. You can see how your current and previous coursework meets requirements for a different major or minor by clicking on Run a What-if APAS near the middle of the screen. 

  4. Think again about the major(s) you want to look at. Use the drop-down menu to select the college the major or minor is in, and then the “Program” menu for the major or minor name. Then, clock on the maroon bar titled “Run What-if APAS”. 

  5. The site generates the web/digital APAS.  If you would like to see a printer-friendly version, click on the “Printer-Friendly” link, and this option will open in a new tab. 

  6. For help with reading your APAS, click on “How to Read Your APAS” near the top. 

  7. At the top of the APAS, Click on “Open All Sections” so that you see the entire report. This will make it easier to read the APAS

  8. On APAS, requirements you have completed show a green check-mark. If you have registered for a course that meets a requirement, that requirement will be noted with a blue icon. Requirements that are at least partially incomplete are marked with a red icon with an “x”.

  9. To run an APAS for another major, click on Request New APAS.

  10. Consider the following questions below using the information in your report.  If you would like type or draw out your responses, you may use DrawIsland, Word or the drawing tool of your choice; save the file and upload it below.
